Compounding

Jim’s Pharmacy is the only retail pharmacy on the Olympic Peninsula offering USP800 compliant compounding.

Why do we compound? Drug manufacturers create medications in fixed dosages and formulations. This one-size-fits-all system does not account for differences between individuals. Body composition, allergies, genetics, sex, and age can all contribute to medication requirements that are not available in commercially-made products.

Compounded medications are useful for individuals who cannot take commercially-made products. For example, if a patient has a gluten allergy and the pre-manufactured drug they need contains gluten, we can compound the medication to be gluten-free. For patients who cannot swallow pills, a compounding pharmacy can compound the medication into a liquid suspension and even add special flavorings to hide the “medicine taste.”

Jim’s Pharmacy provides solutions for all these situations and more. We are able to compound hormone replacement therapies, work with prescribers to tailor pain management preparations, make adjustments for pediatric formulations and doses, and much more. Contact the pharmacy or talk to your doctor for more information about compounds.

Jim’s Pharmacy compounds medications using USP800 guidelines in order to meet the highest standards and to provide our customers with the highest quality product available. In 2019, we built a new on-site compounding facility to continue offering the highest quality medications.

Don’t forget your pets!
Jim’s also compounds prescriptions written by Veterinarians. We can compound pet medications into dosage forms that they will find tasty – some prescriptions can even be made into a yummy pet treat!
