About Us

Jim’s Pharmacy is your independent, locally-owned community pharmacy since 1983.

The Jim’s Pharmacy Family feels fortunate to serve the Olympic Peninsula with our pharmacy services, home health equipment, and gift shop

Jim’s Pharmacy opened in November 1983, located in the former Yamaha Shop at 221 South Peabody Street in Port Angeles. Husband-and-wife founders, Jim and Barb Cammack, had met years before at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Prior to opening their store, Jim was the head pharmacist at the local Pay ‘N’ Save Pharmacy, while Barb worked as a pharmacist at Olympic Memorial Hospital. After eight years operating in the original location, the pharmacy had outgrown its footprint. In 1991, construction began on a new building, located on the former playfield of Washington Grade School at 424 East Second Street. The new store was designed with key elements of the business plan in mind: a large area for processing prescriptions, office and warehouse space, a unique gift shop area, retail space for over-the-counter products, and two drive through lanes. Jim and Barb, supported by their staff of fifteen, held a grand opening party in 1992. At the celebration, Jim Cammack gave a nod to the past and hinted at a plan for the future, saying:
“We had a lot of good advice along the way. Our goal is healthy families, our profession is giving expertise back. When retirement approaches, our son Joe, now a pharmacy and business major at the UW, may take over.”
After graduating from the University of Washington, Joe Cammack joined his parents and the Jim’s Pharmacy team as a licensed pharmacist in 1996. During this same period, in response to the needs of the community, Jim’s Pharmacy increased its service offering. Patients benefited (and still benefit!) from expanded services like free delivery throughout Port Angeles, specialized prescription compounding, and home medical equipment like oxygen and wheelchairs. In 2002, the words that Jim spoke ten years prior came true: he and Barb retired after forty-two years as pharmacists. Joe made the decision to carry on his parents’ legacy and acquired Jim’s Pharmacy, becoming its second-generation owner. Under Joe’s leadership, our staff has grown to over thirty employees and added services like diabetic education, twice-weekly delivery to Sequim, and our Free Vitamins for Kids program. Like his parents, Joe is passionate about giving back to the community, particularly through our JIM’S CARES monthly charity program, as well as sponsorship of various local events and organizations. In 2019, Jim Cammack passed away, surrounded by his family. His compassionate, charitable spirit lives on in the legacy of service at Jim’s Pharmacy. We are so thankful to our customers and our community for making us your partner in health!
